Description
Sherry Marshall, (BSc. Sociology; CQ. Social Work; Masters, App. Science, Social Ecology; Diplomate Process -Oriented Psychology) has written a book which, through a collection of personal stories told by ordinary people, explains some of the main ideas and essential teachings of Tibetan Buddhism.

Sherry is an experienced psychotherapist and group facilitator who has worked at Royal North Shore Hospital for 7 years as the Staff Counselling Co-ordinator as well as maintaining a private therapy practice in Manly, Sydney. She has been involved in the path of Tibetan Buddhism for 14 years and has written a research thesis on Psychotherapy and Buddhism.

The book tells stories of people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, sexuality and countries, including an opera singer, homemaker, dentist, business man and masseur, among others. They explain how they met their teacher and candidly and openly discuss what impact that has had on their lives. They examine contemporary issues, the true relationship that exists between teacher and student and what being devoted means to them.

They honestly discuss the difficulties and challenges that they have confronted in themselves, with the teacher and in their communities. The book has been written for people who know little or nothing about Buddhism but are interested in exploring a spiritual dimension to their lives. The stories include aspects of medicine, healing, dreaming, visions, therapy, death and dying, relationships, spiritual practice, spiritual warriorship, following the unknown and inner freedom. It also contains photographs, traditional tales and poetry.

The foreword is written by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche perhaps best known for his film, 'The Cup', and calligraphy has been drawn by Sogyal Rinpoche, author of 'The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.'

'Devotion is the foundation that holds our practice together. With it, we gain fundamental daringness, to face all the unexpected surprises on our path….Devotion brings certain transcendental vulnerabilities, so that we can be our naked selves, no longer hiding our neuroses skilfully.' Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.
