Description
Jamgön Kongtrul's Treasury of Knowledge in ten volumes is a unique encyclopedic masterpiece embodying the entire range of Buddhist teachings as they were present in Tibet. Tibetan Buddhist teachers expected their students to study Buddhist philosophical texts as well as practicing reflection and meditation; present-day students have also realized that awakening has its source in study as well as in reflection and practice.
This volume, Buddhism's Journey to Tibet, is his masterful history of Buddhism. It describes the appearance of the Buddha, what he taught, including material scriptures, non-material realization as well as the works inspired by his teaching. The book also describes how this tradition was preserved and transmitted, and how it journeyed to and was assimilated into Tibetan religious life.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Tayé, (1813-1900), was one of the most influential figures and prolific writers in the Tibetan Buddhist world. He was a pivotal figure in eastern Tibet's nonsectarian movement, and as its founder, he was the single most important proponent of this movement that flourished then and remains popular today.
Ngawang Zangpo (Hugh Leslie Thompson) completed two three-year retreats under the direction of the late Kalu Rinpoche. He is presently working on a number of translation projects under the direction of Chadral Rinpoche and Lama Tharchin Rinpoche and lives near Santa Cruz in California.
