The Windhorse Books Story
The Windhorse symbolises the energy of the enlightened mind carrying the Three Jewels - the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha - to all beings.
Windhorse Books is a non-profit business run by Australian Buddhists in the spirit of the Buddha’s teachings. Our aim is to make available quality books on Buddhism and meditation.
Windhorse Books is a Buddhist right livelihood business - that is a venture attempting to engage in ethical, non-exploitative and spiritually beneficial business.
We have been in operation since 1994 distributing books to bookshops, Buddhist groups and individuals. Deeply inspired by our Dharma practice, we are keen to make available these resources, practices and perspectives that have benefited us so much in our lives. By distributing quality Buddhist books we hope to further the understanding and practice of the Buddha's teachings.
We are a not-for-profit business. To date, profit made has gone back into the business. Those working in Windhorse Books are practicing Buddhists.
We hope that what we make available inspires - not the desire to acquire - but understanding, Buddhist practice and generosity towards others.
Out and About
We not only operate from our shop, but through out the year we get out and about, and you may see us at festivals. One of our favourites is the annual Happiness and Its Causes Conference held at the Sydney Convention Centre. We have also attended, Mindfulness conferences, Yoga Festivals as well as talks by some of our authors. We love the opportunity to interact with our customers more directly in this way.
